Exercising outdoors

Exercising outdoors

The snow is finally melting in New England and we’re experiencing more sunny days. It’s almost time to take our workouts outside of the gym and into the fresh outdoors. At Educators Insurance we look forward to the new life the change in season brings to our workout routines. Here are a few tips we found to pump up our springtime exercise.

Refresh your wardrobe

The change of season is the perfect excuse to update your workout gear, especially your sneakers. If your sneakers are from last year then there’s a good chance they’re worn out and won’t provide the best support. If you’re not sure which sneakers are the best match for your fitness level, visit specialty running stores, like Sneakerama in Worcester or Marathon Sports in Eastern MA, and a specialist will fit you for a specific shoe that is the perfect for you.

Pump up your playlist

Download some new and upbeat songs to accompany you on your workout. Need some song ideas? Check out Pinterest and Spotify for pre-made lists to add to your playlist. (One of the current office favorites is Uptown Funk by Bruno Mars.)

Try something new

If you’re like us, we sometimes get bored with the same workout routines, which can cause us to become demotivated. Instead of skipping the gym, look around town to see if there are any interesting physical activities that will help you break a sweat and push you outside of your comfort zone. Trapeze classes, Ultimate Frisbee and Rollerblading are all excellent workouts but aren’t something you can do in a regular gym.

However you choose to motivate yourself through the spring and into the summer, make sure you stay safe if exercising outside. Always let someone know where you are going, pay attention to your surroundings and carry your cell phone with you. Enjoy the spring, and maybe we’ll run into you on the trails!
